Each year, during the first full week of May, we observe North American Occupational Safety and Health Week. This year, it falls between May 5th and May 11th. Nationally, fatal work injuries increased by 5.7 percent from 2021, with 5,486 incidents reported in 2022. 

Additionally, private industry employers in Alaska reported 6,500 nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses, resulting in a total recordable cases (TRC) incidence rate of 3.3 cases per 100 full-time equivalent workers, compared to the national rate of 2.7. This extensive reporting helps in understanding the risks and preparing better safety measures.
